About
Lyndsey Jones is a journalist, playwright and comedy writer. Her debut play, Martini Bond: Her hunt for the spy who loved her mum – a James Bond parody – was one of the best selling shows at the 2012 Camden Fringe Festival in London. The show went on to enjoy a successful four-night run at the Broadway theatre, Barking and was also live streamed. Martini Bond is on at the Kings Arms, Salford, near Manchester, Friday March 8 and Saturday March 9 at 7.30pm. Tickets: £7, £5 concessions.
Lyndsey would like to share her experience of writing the play, producing it, watching her words come to life, and possibly flirting with e-publishing.
For the last couple of years, she has written sketches which have been performed on the London fringe comedy circuit. She has also been a joke writer, working in partnership with an artist and having more than 100 cartoons published in the Times Educational Supplement.
When she is not writing for fun, she writes for a living. Lyndsey is a senior journalist on the Financial Times. She has previously been a sub editor on the Daily Mail. She has also been a news editor and reporter for regional newspapers, national and trade magazines. All views expressed on this blog are her personal opinion and do not represent the FT.
The name WomanBitesDog is a play on the journalism phrase Man bites dog which is used to describe how an unusual, infrequent event is more likely to be reported than an everyday occurrence such as dog bites man, or indeed woman.

Oh, comedy. I see. You perform yours. I draw mine. Writing gags or making cartoons takes a special ability. Anyone an write a novel but we have to be sharp, funny and lightening quick in delivery.

found you on truth and cake and look forward to reading more from you. I lived in London for six years at a time when I sort of became who I am today. I didn’t realize that man bites dog, was a journalism expression and what it meant. I live in Belgium now and there is a famous tv show called man bijt hond (man bites dog) and it covers the (strange) habits of Belgians in their own land. It’s journalism but quirky and odd. Thanks for that, I’ve always wondered where the title came from!

Glad I could help! I didn’t realise the expression translated into other languages and meant the same thing! Thanks for your comment.

I’d love to see your play but I can’t get to Salford easily. Stockport is just up the road – you should add a few dates. All the touring stars do it 🙂
